One of the many developing ideas for Tchelitchew's iconic Hide and Seek, a painting in The Museum of Modern Art, New York, completed in 1942. The inspiration for Leaf Children, the metamorphosis of children into leaves, came from the form of a gnarled tree on the estate of Edward James, collector and patron of the artist
