In the mid 18th century, the Annamese kilns were no longer able to produce porcelains of quality and the Nguyen Emperors in HuÚ began to commission porcelains from Jingdezhen for use within the Imperial Household. The motifs usually chosen were scenes of palaces, the Perfume River (which flows past the Forbidden City in HuÚ) and dragons
