White Marble Memorial Stele
Northern Qi Dynasty, dated to the third year of (probably) Xuandi (553 A.d..), 7th month, 5th day
Carved with two standing figure of bodhisattva in mirror position with one hand in abhaya mudra, the other holding the hem of the garment. Each is standing on a single lotus which is raised over a blockish base carved in the front with two protective Buddhist lions seated flanking a small altar. The partially legible inscription on the back can best be translated as a memorial to a mother named Wong by her twin children. Traces of lacquer. Height 14 7/8 inches (37.8 cm).
