Eighty-three aquatint (or facsimile, see below) plates after Karl Bodmer, many with the blindstamp C Bodmer | Direct, engraved by J. Hürlimann, L. Weber, C. Vogel, Salathé, Himely, Prévost, R. Rollet, P. Legrand, Desmadryl and others; comprising 50 tableau plates and 33 vignette plates (24 x 17 inches; 610 x 432 mm. or 12 x 17 1/2 inches; 305 x 445 approximate sheet size), with two impressions each of tableau plates 20 and 29, "Sih-Chida & Mahchsi-Karehde" and "Junction of the Yellow Stone River with the Missouri," with the first hand-colored and the second tinted, three tableau plates on india paper mounted on wove and six supplied in facsimile, eight vignette plates on india paper mounted on wove and one supplied in facsimile (a detailed list is available from the department). Two 4to text volumes, half vellum, and one atlas portfolio, plates laid loose as issued. Foxing, some discoloration and rubbing, some tears at the sheet edges, portfolio partly perished. (3)
