"Dear Bierstadt
"I thank you truly for sending me the engraving of your picture of the Rocky Mountains. I will have it carefully framed and hung up in my house.
"No artist has done more than yourself to fix a canvas, and to attract notice to the majestic scenery of the Great Interior of this Continent and I wish you all honor and profit.

General."
