Oval, sight 19 1/2 x 15 1/2 inches

Born 1820, Captain Kane was graduated from West Point in 1841 and served in the army on frontier duty. He was held as a prisoner for four months during the Mexican War. Kane's father, Elias Senior, graduated from Yale in 1812 and became a highly distinguished member of the commonwealth of Illinois as a framer of the state's constitution and U.S. senator.
