WHISTLER, JAMES ABBOTT MCNEILL Group of autograph notes relating to his portrait of Comte Robert de Montesquiou-Fezensac.
Approximately six autograph notes, most with original envelopes, and related material (telegrams, clippings, etc) regarding the sale of Whistler's portrait of Comte Robert de Montesquiou-Fezensac to the American collector Robert Canfield, circa 1902-3. The notes on various stationery, mostly 3 3/4 x 5 3/4 inches, and variously signed including a few with Whistler's butterfly monogram. Unsual folds, some wear and tears from handling, the telegrams worn with losses.
An interesting correspondence regarding Canfield's purchase of the portrait Arrangement in Black and Gold, Comte Robert de Montesquiou-Fezensac, which now hangs in the Frick Museum.
