This view shows the church with the baroque facade carrying the arms of Pope Clement XI added by Giusepe Sardi in 1718. This was removed in the restorations begun in 1894 by Pope Leo XIII. In the northern end of portico rests the famous Bocca della Verita, an ancient relief featuring a face, whose mouth was long believed to close over and sever the hand of anyone who placed it there and swore falsely.
