Set of Six Blue Continental Blue-Japanned and Parcel-Gilt Caned Side Chairs
Second quarter 18th century
Possibly German, each shell- and foliate-carved serpentine cresting above a vasiform backsplat decorated with a chinoiserie standing female figure holding a fan, the stiles with flowers and foliage, the caned seat raised on cabriole legs joined by block- and ring-turned stretchers and ending in claw-and-ball feet. Height 40 1/2 inches (102.8 cm), width 21 3/4 inches (55.3 cm), depth 14 1/2 inches (36.9 cm).
