Russian Silver Champlevé and En Plein Enamel Presentation Cigarette Case
Khlebnikov, Moscow, 1893
Rectangular, the cover enameled en grisaille with a view of the Moscow Kremlin, within an opaque blue line border and guilloche and star border, the base applied with a view of a Fairbanks railway scale above the inscription Charles Chandler Miller. Length 4 3/4 inches (12.1 cm).
E&T Fairbanks Company is an American manufacturer of scales founded in the 19th century. By the 1860s, the company was selling scales in Europe, including Russia, where it supplied the Russian government railways. Fairbanks scales became the Russian government standard by the late 19th century.
