Sir Edward Hulton was the founder of Picture Post magazine. His second wife was the Princess Nika Yourievitch, daughter of Serge Yourievitch, a Russian diplomat and sculptor who was a pupil of Rodin.

Goncharova worked on a series of bathers in gouache and oil at this time.
