Carlisle: Privately printed by Chas. Thurnam & Sons, 1919. First edition. Publisher's tan cloth gilt. 7 3/8 x 5 inches; frontispiece. A bit foxed throughout, shelf sticker to front pastedown.
"Bolton, a member of the RAF in the Great War, lost his leg and was imprisoned for a time in Germany. After the war, he traveled to Rhodesia for sport where he collected roan, sable and eland, with stalks after buffalo and kudu near the Kafue River. He was trundled about in a machilla, a kind of portable hammock, then would take to crutches to pursue game. His wife, Minnie, collected his letters home and had them published. A scarce little work" (Czech). Czech, Africa, pp. 31-32.
