Publisher's maroon pictorial cloth gilt. 8 3/4 x 5 3/4 inches; 508, 7 pp.; folding map in rear pocket, frontispiece and plates with tissue guards, in-text illustrations, publisher's advertisements. Extremities fraying, small gouge to upper cover, endpapers edgeworn, map worn with old tape repairs.
Cameron's account of his journey as the first European to cross the African continent from east to west, which contains "valuable suggestions for the opening up of the continent, including the utilization of the great lakes as a Cape-to-Cairo connection" (Howgego).
