London: Addey and Co., 1856. International copyright edition, published the same year as the Lambert edition. 6 3/4 x 4 1/4 inches; 224 pp.; frontispiece and plates by Doré. Spine sunned, extremities worn, generally a bit rubbed, some surface soiling to text block, ink stamp and contemporary ownership inscription to front free endpaper.
"An early and oft reprinted work on lion stalking, Gerard hunting in western and central Algeria during the 1840s. Besides his encounters with lion, he describes hunts for leopard, gazelle and wild boar. There is an interesting chapter on falconry in the region as well. The illustrations of lion hunts by Gustav [sic] Doré" (Czech). Czech, Africa, p. 104.
