Philadelphia: J. B. Lippincott Company, [1927]. First American edition. Publisher's yellow pictorial cloth gilt. 8 3/8 x 5 3/8 inches; 275 pp.; folding map, frontispiece and plates after photographs, half-title. Spine a bit dulled, extremities bumped and lightly fraying, somewhat overopened.
"The author recounts his 1912 journey of exploration through Jubaland on the Somali coast to the Lorian Swamp. While on the trail, he hunted oryx, rhinoceros, gerenuk, leopard, lion and buffalo. Near Mt. Kenya, Haywood bagged a charging rhino with a .32 caliber automatic pistol after an attempt at photographing the beast. '[I]t is not the sort of effort I care to repeat...'" Undoubtedly!"
