Publisher's maroon pictorial cloth gilt. 8 3/4 x 6 inches; xiv, 344 pp.; folding map in the rear pocket, 23 plates (including 10 of natural history subjects), in-text illustrations, half-title, with edition statement slip laid in. Recased and tightened preserving original spine, endpapers renewed, cloth rubbed, corners bumped, scattered foxing and toning, map toned with long split to fold.
"While primarily a work of exploration and adventure in Somaliland, the author does partake in a few hunts for kudu, lion, and assorted antelopes near the River Webbe..." (Czech). Czech, Africa, p. 83; Nissen ZBI 2088.
