London: Chapman & Hall, 1898. First edition. Publisher's beige cloth gilt, rebacked. 8 1/8 x 5 3/8 inches; [xii], 260 pp.; folding map, frontispiece, plates, half-title. Spine and endpapers renewed, boards a bit stained and lightly bumped, foxing throughout, old tape repair to verso of map, ink notation to half-title.
"The author, an assistant deputy commissioner of British Central Africa, pursued sporting adventures in the Haud region west of Hargeisa in Somaliland. After traveling by camel caravan, he and his hunting party bagged oryx and aoul, plus records numerous encounters with lion. Continuing into the interior, elephants were collected. Near the Ethiopian border and the Tyuli Hills, rhinoceros, kudu and leopard were hunted" (Czech). Czech, Africa, pp. 214-215.
