Lot 378
TREATT, C. COURT Out of the Beaten Track. A Narrative of Travel in Little Known Africa.
New York: E. P. Dutton & Co., Inc., [1931]. First edition. Publisher's cloth in dust jacket. 8 1/2 x 5 5/8 inches; 288 pp.; full-page map, frontispiece and plates after photographs, half-title. Jacket a bit edgeworn with minor losses to extremities, cloth tips lightly bumped, one or two leaves roughly opened, else fine.
A nice copy in the scarce dust jacket. "Treatt tried his hand at hunting elephant with a spear along the upper reaches of the Nile, concluding that 'there is more sportsmanship in attacking an elephant with a spear than in shooting it with a high-precision rifle...' (!) There is, however, one chapter on hunting elephant with a rifle, with another on lion" (Czech). Czech, Africa, p. 287.
