George III Satinwood Open Armchair
Attributed to John Linnell, circa 1780
The pierced anthemion-carved backrest above a caned oval drop-in seat with serpentine apron flanked by downswept armrests, raised on cabriole legs. Height 36 inches (91.5 cm), width 22 1/4 inches (56.5 cm), depth 17 inches (43.2 cm).

One of a set of six very similar satinwood armchairs at Kedleston in the collection of Viscount Scarsdale, possibly supplied by the eminent Berkeley Square firm of John Linnell to Sir Nathaniel Curzon, Bt., created 1st Baron Scarsdale, April 1761, is illustrated, H.
