Russian Silver Trompe L'Oeil Caviar Pot and Tray
Karl Verlin, St. Petersburg, 1878
Cylindrical on spreading foot, chased to simulate birch bark, with detachable cover, the front engraved with window frame enclosing a Cyrillic monogram, the Roman numerals XXV and the dates 1854-1879, with a glass liner, the circular tray similarly decorated; in a fitted Grachev wood box. Height of pot 5 1/2 inches (14 cm.), diameter of tray 6 1/4 inches (16 cm.), total approximately 17.6 ounces (547 grams).
