Pair of Dutch Rococo Walnut and Marquetry Side Chairs
Mid-18th century
Each backscrolled featherbanded toprail with scrolls ending in pinwheels above a shaped backsplat and a crewel work-upholstered serpentine drop-in seat, the shaped apron raised on squared cabriole legs ending in hoofed feet. Height 42 inches (106.7 cm), width 19 inches (48.2 cm), depth 14 inches (35.6 cm).

Purchased on January 10, 1963, from the above by Mrs. Henry Parish II, Inc., New York, for the decedent's collection.

Good restored condition, now with later varnish, one chair with repaired breaks to stiles at juncture of seat rails, worm damage, later corner blocks to underside of seat; unusally, the backsplats are veneered on walnut, old marks and scratches, losses to featherbanding, scuffs to feet.
