Pair of Directoire Fruitwood Open Armchairs (Fauteuils à la Reine)
Late 18th century
Each backscrolled toprail carved with a shell flanked by laurel leaves above a pierced lyre-form backsplat and overupholstered seat flanked by channeled amrests on baluster supports on ribbed plinths and raised on ring-turned legs headed by lozenges; each chair stamped JACOB at the top of one back leg. Height 35 inches (88.9 cm), width 22 1/2 inches (57.2 cm), depth 19 inches (48.3 cm).
