England, circa 1941. Polychromed enameled pottery toby jug designed by Clarice Cliff, depicting Winston Churchill holding a ship and seated on a flag. The base inscription reads "AND MAY GOD DEFEND THE RIGHT ... GOING INTO ACTION." Base stamped with Cliffs' signature, Staffordshire markings and hand numbered "NO. 256". 11 1/4 inches (29 cm) tall.
