Josef Hoffmann for the Wiener Werkstätte Vienna Secession Reticulated Silver and Glass Flower Basket Vase
Model S1962, from the "Gitterwerk" series, circa 1906-16
With an elliptical lattice-form body, conforming looped handle and colorless glass liner. Stamped with the Wiener Werkstätte mark (W.W.), Vienna assay mark for 900 silver, the firm's "rose" mark and JH. Height 10 1/8 inches, width 3 1/2 inces, approximately 3 ounces, weighable.
The Wiener Werkstätte also produced this model in white painted zinc and silver plate. Examples in silver, however, are quite rare. An example of this form in silver can be found in the collection of the Austrian Museum of Applied Arts/Contemporary Art (MAK) in Vienna. Another example in silver but missing its original glass liner is in the collection of the Victoria & Albert Museum, in London.
