Signed Dolly Ann Cornwell Wrought this in the 11th year of her age Middletown Dec 1828.
Height 17 1/4 inches, width 16 1/4 inches.

Dolly Ann Cornwell was born on June 9, 1818 to David Cornwell and Grace Johnson. Towns of the Connecticut River Valley, such as Middletown, were epicenters of agriculture and trade and each town took pride in local crafts. Middletown examples use identifiable buildings and figures, as well as naturalistic imagery. This example and the following example feature similar upper flower border registers and both wrought in 1828, probably were taught by the same schoolmistress.
