This lot includes a family history of the embroiderer.
Julia Ann worked under the instruction of her teacher, Elizabeth Shorter in Crawford, Orange Country, New York. According to the vendor, this is the second known sampler worked under Elizabeth Shorter. Both include a Federal house with shuttered windows and a similar scene.
Julia Ann Niver was born July 26, 1822 to Ephraim and Elizabeth (Rumsay) Niver.
