Ronnie Newman Collection, Saddle River, New Jersey
America Hurrah Antiques, New York
Betty Sterling Collection
Jan Whitlock, Centreville, Delaware, March 2005

Illustrated in American Hooked and Sewn Rugs: Folk Art Underfoot, by Joel and Kate Kopp, p. 20 pl. 11., and The Magazine Antiques, "Sewn Not Hooked" Whitlock, March/April 2012.

Yarn-sewn rugs were typically used to cover tables, chests, or the hearth. The use of hearth rugs in America began around 1800. The rug makers typically did not have academic art training. The oversized basket of flowers centering the rug with miniature lamps in the landscape show the bold use of space and fantastical designs used by the amateur artist.
