Assembled Set of Twelve Mahogany and Yewwood Windsor Armchairs

Each arched backrest with pierced lancet-carved backsplat and sides, the U-shaped arm rest centering a saddle seat, raised on cabriole legs headed by pierced brackets and joined by a crinoline stretcher and ending in pad feet. Height of largest backrest 39 inches (99 cm), width 21 inches (53.3. cm), height of seat 17 1/2 inches (44.5 cm), width 22 3/4 inches (57.8 cm), depth 16 1/2 inches (41.9 cm), width over arm rests 25 1/4 inches (64.2 cm).
Designed in the 'Gothick' style popularized by Horace Walpole at Strawberry Hill, the form of the present armchairs is 'considered to be the 'best' Windsor seating furniture' by Bernard D. Cotton, The English Regional Chair, 1990;
