Most renowned for his proficiency as a miniature portrait painter, Rudolf Ipold had studied at l'Ecole du Conservatoire des Arts et Metiers in Vienna as well as at l'Academie des Beaux-Arts. Prominent socialites from Italy, France, the United States, England and Austria formed his clientelle, as did the family of the Grand-Duc Frederic. His most notable sitter was King Charles.
