FREUD, SIGMUND The Interpretation of Dreams.
New York: MacMillan, 1913. First edition in English. Translated by A.A. Brill. Publisher's cloth lettered in gilt. 8 1/2 x 5 1/4 inches (21 x 13 cm); 510 pp. A fine copy overall with a slight fade to spine and some light toning and spotting to cloth extremities and endpapers.
The American edition is consensually agreed to have priority over the English. It exists in two states, with integral title and title as cancellandum; this is the issue with the cancel title (indicating that copies composed of unbound sheets were used when the edition printed by Macmillan ran out). "This is unquestionably Freud's greatest single work. It contains all the basic components of psychoanalytic theory and practice" (PMM). Garrison-Morton 4980; Norman F33; Printing and the Mind of Man (all citing the original edition); Rieber & Gach 167 (this edition).
