GERRY, ELBRIDGE Autograph letter signed.
Cambridge: 21 April 1812. One page note signed "E. Gerry" on one sheet, 6 1/2 x 8 inches (16.5 x 30 cm), Folds, remants of old mounting to verso, two archival tape strips reinforce folds on verso.
Here Gerry, at the end of his governorship and before taking office as Vice President, writes to Samuel Dana, Chief Justice of the Massachusetts Court of Common Pleas, asking him to complete certain "pecuniary arrangements" as "it is impossible for the opposite party to increase in their disposition to injure me in every possible way." Gerry was a signer of the Declaration of Independence and namesake of the term "Gerrymandering."
