London: John Murray, 1836. First edition. Publisher's brown cloth (neatly rebacked, retaining a portion of the original spine). 8 5/8 x 5 1/2 inches (22 x 14 cm); xii, 663, [1] pp., 16 engraved or lithographed plates, large folding map at end. Rebacked as noted, spine laid down (with several portions of the original spine lacking), covers generally a bit rubbed but overall sound, internally a clean example, short tear to one fold of the map.
"...Full of details of his commerce with the Cree, Chippewa, and Coppermine Indians ... a fundamental source of information about Indian life along the route of the Arctic expedition" -- Streeter. This private expedition was undertaken to search for the second Ross expedition. Back and his party went from Montreal to Great Slave Lake, then overland to the Arctic Ocean.
