[ARCTIC] BACK, GEORGE, Sir. Narrative of the Arctic Land Expedition to the mouth of the Great Fish River, and along the shores of the Arctic Ocean, in the years 1833.

Publisher's brown cloth (neatly rebacked, retaining a portion of the original spine). 8 5/8 x 5 1/2 inches (22 x 14 cm); xii, 663, [1] pp., 16 engraved or lithographed plates, large folding map at end. Rebacked as noted, spine laid down (with several portions of the original spine lacking), covers generally a bit rubbed but overall sound, internally a clean example, short tear to one fold of the map.
"...Full of details of his commerce with the Cree, Chippewa, and Coppermine Indians ... a fundamental source of information about Indian life along the route of the Arctic expedition" -- Streeter. This private expedition was undertaken to search for the second Ross expedition. Back and his party went from Montreal to Great Slave Lake, then overland to the Arctic Ocean.
