BRACKENRIDGE, HENRY M. Recollections of Persons and Places in the West.
Philadelphia: James Kay, Jun. & Brother / Pittsburgh: John L. Kay & Co., [1834]. First edition. Original cloth with printed paper label to spine. 6 7/8 x 4 inches; 244 pp. Presentation inscription of the Belden family of Sandusky City [Ohio] dated 5 August 1834. Small loss at head of title, foxed throughout, neat ink names to upper corners of verso of final three leaves, hinges with an old strengthening, slightly cocked with a minor fade to spine and small losses to label costing some letters, small losses and split to spine cloth, light stains to covers.
A rare narrative of Brackenridge's early years. The "Native of the Ohio" was raised in Louisiana and here describes the Ohio and Mississippi River Valleys. Later, Brackenridge was the first recorded tourist in South Dakota in 1811 and served under Jackson in Florida before settling in Pennsylvania. Howes B687.
