Washington City [i.e. Georgetown]: Robert Chew Weightman, 1809. First American edition stated, from the 3rd London edition (this a variant imprint not mentioning J. Milligan). Two volumes, original marbled calf, all edges speckled. 8 1/4 x 4 3/4 inches (21 x 12 cm); xvi, 510, xxxiv pp.; viii, 542 pp. Rubbed, joints on the first volume especially frail, some moderate foxing. John Wheelock's copy with his signatures in both volumes, dated September 21st, 1812, this likely Washington's correspondent, the second President of Dartmouth College.
