FIELD, D.[ONALD] M. Jungle Jottings. 1908-[41]. A brief record of beasts slain by the author...
Jodhpur: Jodhpur Government Press, 1936-1945. The third volume bears a presentation letter from the author to "Carmen." The Fourth Series here is illustrated with the author's original photographs. Four volumes bound as three, black or green half- or full leather. 9 3/4 x 7 1/2 inches (26 x 19 cm); 273 pp. (paginated continuously through the first and second series), with reproductions of photographs; 96 pp., with original photographs imprinted with text; 171 pp., with 43 original mounted gelatin silver prints, captioned by hand by the author, most 4 7/8 inches square. Some binding wear, restoration to the full leather binding of the second volume.
Complete set of this apparently rare work (no copies of any of the parts appear on WorldCat or COPAC, nor at auction that we can locate, other than a previous Johnson example sold by us), written by Sir Donald Field, the Chief Minister of Jodhpur State. The first two parts are illustrated after photographs, the third part has what are apparently original photographs with the titling printed at the Press, but the final volume has the author's original mounted photographs. A lifetime of hunting tigers, panthers, and other big game, mostly in India.
C Estate of Arnold 'Jake' Johnson
