London: Frederick Warne & Co. , [1912]. First edition. Publisher's three-quarters morocco, top edge gilt. 14 3/8 x 11 1/8 inches; viii, [105] pp.; 50 mounted color plates. Extremities lightly rubbed, cloth a little discolored at edges.
First edition of this beautifully illustrated work, depicting the Lion, the Nile Crocodile, the Abyssinian Green Monkey, the Somali Ostrich, the Senegal Parrot, and others. The book is scarce in the deluxe binding, a handsome production with Art Nouveau motifs.
