Two volumes, publisher's slate gray cloth. 9 3/4 x 7 inches (24.5 x 18 cm); (vol.1) xxiv, 358 pp., [ii pp. colophon]; (vol.2) viii, 364 pp., 5 maps [4 folding, including 3 colored], 3 folding tables, 15 plates [6 colored + 9 photographic], 212 illustrations in the text [210 photographic including 40 of coins, 2 sketches]. Upper corner of the first volume bumped, with some creasing to text, light wear, minor foxing at the beginning and ends of the volumes.
