Lot 157
MORRISROE, MARK (1959-1989) Untitled (Paul Henderson),
1983. Gelatin silver print on postcard stock, 5 3/8 x 3 1/2 inches (138 x 808 mm), verso with "Photo Post Card" printed, unsigned. Distressed (pinhole in upper margin, creases) apparently as issued. Framed.
Frame verso with ClampArt gallery label. Mark Morrisroe's was part of the so-called Boston School, with Nan Goldin, David Armstrong, Philip-Lorca diCorcia, Tabboo!, and Gail Thacker, all of whom attended either the School of the Museum of Fine Arts or Massachusetts College of Art between 1971 and 1984). Notoriously hard living, with a background of addiction and violence, he was something of a proto-Punk, deliberately accentuating the imperfections of his work. The full title is "Big Paul Henderson strikes an artistic pose," or it is thus titled by the artist on one edition.
From the collection of Joseph Salvatore LaPolla Jr.
