Italian Micromosaic Picture of the Forum Boarium
Rome, circa 1860-1880
Depicting the Fontana dei Tritoni in the Piazza della Bocca della Verità and the Temple of Hercules Olivarius (Victor). Height of panel 11 1/2 inches (31.7 cm), width 17 1/2 inches (44.5 cm); height of frame 17 1/4 inches (44.5 cm), width 23 inches (58.5 cm).

This panel depicts the Forum Boarium, the ancient cattle market in Rome close to the Tiber. The temple is the ealiest surviving marble building in Rome and is made of Greek marble.

A smaller example of the similar scene was sold, Nagel Auktionen, Stuttgart, Germany, February 10, 2010, lot 55.

Unrestored condition, cracks and bowing to panel, which appears to be on a metal base, losses to gilding of frame with chips and rubbing to gilding.
