Assembled Set of Twenty-Two Sèvres Yellow-Ground Porcelain Dessert Plates
Second quarter 19th Century
Each with a white center decorated with a gilt transfer printed emblem, titled in French, depicting assorted foodstuff or beverages, including duck, venison, cheese, and wine, continuing to a wide yellow border and hand-painted green and gilt ivy band. Diameter 9 1/4 inches.

Twelve plates purchased at Christie's, New York, The Connoisseur's Eye, June 2, 2015, lot 309; ten plates purchased at Moorabool Antique Galleries, Geelong, Australia, 2014.

Condition: each plate appears appears to be in generally good, undamaged condition, with the exception of one plate, which has a somewhat large-size chip loss to a section of its foot ring (L'huile plate); each plate has varying degrees of wear/rubbing/loss to its gilding; one plate motif and title appears twice, i.e., it is a duplicate (two identical plates), otherwise, each motif is unique and appears just once; there are, however, two plates that have the same title. i.e., Les Salades, however, the emblems (motifs) are different; there are differences to the Sèvres factory markings in the underside of the plates: one plate has no markings; nine plates have the blue interlace "L" overglaze mark (one of these marks is slightly smaller in size than the others); five plates have a large circular reserve with the name spelled out in uppercase SÈVRES surmounted with a star symbol and the date [18]51; seven plates have the same circular mark, however, it is slightly smaller in size; some of the markings are in blue color and others appear to be black-gray in coloration; plates were not blacklighted
