Flemish Carved Walnut Panel of Christ Carrying the Cross
16th Century
Based on a woodcut by Hans Schäufelein, German (c. 1480 - c. 1540), the central figure of Christ flanked by standing figures, the kneeling figure to the right of Veronica holding her veil with Christ's image on it, the hilly town in the background. Height 16 inches (40.7 cm), width 11 inches (28 cm).

Condition commensuarte with age, old marks and scratches, old worm damage, losses to belt of Christ being held by man on far left, age cracks, especially to base, standing figure of man behind Veronica with replaced right hand, losses to fingers of left hand, age crack and inpainting to right side of arch below tower in upper left corner, wear and rubbing.
