Chippendale Mahogany High Chest
Newport, Rhode Island, circa 1775
The scrolled closed bonnet with three fluted urn and corkscrew finials, the upper section with shell-carved drawer flanked by small drawers, over four graduated long drawers; the lower section with a long drawer over three small drawers, the shaped apron centering a concave shell, all on cabriole legs carved at the knee with pendant foliage and ending in pierced-talon ball and claw front feet and turned pad rear feet. Height 7 feet 2 inches, width 39 inches, depth 20 inches.
