George III Carved Mahogany Bedstead

The front reeded baluster posts with overlapping upright leaves and tripartite wheat motif, and ending in square molded Marlborough feet; the plain square tapering back posts with slots for plain pine headboard; the four rails each with a slightlightly recessed edge and one molded edge. One back post appears to be oak, the other possibly fruitwood. Height 6 feet 11 1/4 inches, width 53 3/4 inches; depth 6 feet 5 1/2 inches.

Additional Notes & Condition Report

All four posts are modified including filled-in slots to infacing side of square section and filled-in circle to rear facing side. Currently there are later L brackets attached to help secure front rail to posts. Slots in rear posts for later headboard are also not original, and possibly only one rear post is original. Rear posts have each have a large prob late 19th c wood and iron "ball" caster, chips to base, cracks, worming.
Front posts have scratches, some rubbing to carved areas, wear to base, etc.

No tester or finials.
