NEW YORK, NY -- Doyle held the successful auction of Property from Chateau Ridge, Greenwich, on February 24, 2021. This landmark sale showcased elegant furniture and decorations and fine art from Chateau Ridge, an historic chateau in Greenwich, Connecticut. Built in 1927 and originally named Ream Chateau, the elegant house was the setting for a royal visit during a 1967 tour of the Americas by King Umberto II of Italy.

In the 1980s, the chateau was reimagined by famed architect and designer Anthony Ingrao, and over a five-year period the house and gardens were transformed into a lavish venue for entertaining on a grand scale. He sourced exceptional furnishings at auction and through prominent dealers in London, Rome, Florence and especially, Paris. The elegant Continental and English furniture, decorations and art in the sale reflected Anthony Ingrao’s legendary reputation for quality, design and connoisseurship.

With competitive bidding, the sale totaled $258,962 against a pre-sale estimate of $190,100-308,300 with a strong 88% sold by lot and 100% sold by value.

The top lot of the day was a Portrait of a Lady Said to be Mme. Largillière from the Circle of Nicolas Largillière that achieved $8,190, more than doubling its estimate of $2,000-4,000. Nicolas de Largillière defined high-style French portraiture in the late 17th and early 18th century. This lady’s self-confident yet congenial expression and her luxurious dress perfectly exemplify his urbane manner.
