Philadelphia: A. Hart, 1853. First edition, early ownership signature. Publisher's dark blue blind stamped cloth, gilt spine title. 8 1/2 x 5 1/2 inches; [4], 292 pp.; engraved frontispiece dog portrait, engraved plate and printed ads for John Krider's guns and sporting equipment at rear. Wear to binding, spine sunned, intermittent foxing, dampstaining and toning.
John Krider (1813-1886) was a noted Philadelphia sportsman, gunsmith and ornithologist. He owned a sporting goods store, with an upstairs taxidermy shop, on the corner of Second Street and Walnut Street in Philadelphia.
