[AMERICA-HUNTING] McALEENAN, JOSEPH Leaves from a Wyoming Diary.
New York: Privately Printed, 1914. First edition, one of 30 copies signed by the author, inscribed by McAleenan to "Doctor William L. Ettinger, Superintendent of Schools," one of the dedicatees. Publisher's full green cloth stamped in gilt. 11 x 8 3/8 inches (28 x 21 cm); 52 ff., rectos only, printed by H.S. Nicholls "using a special photographic process." Covers with pale spots, small snag to cloth at head of spine.
An uncommon work issued in a low limitation; the only other copy we find at auction also came from the Johnson collection. This appears to be one of the scarcest of the author's works, all of which were produced in small editions and are highly prized. It bears a pictorial frontispiece "The Bronco" with a verse. The text includes a number of accounts of adventures in the Wyoming wilderness, including a remarkable and bloody account of a battle between grizzlies and hunting dogs. Howes M10, for its narratives of early Wyoming.
C Estate of Arnold 'Jake' Johnson
