[INDIA-FORESTRY] AMERY, C. F. Notes on Forestry.
London: Trubner & Co., 1875. First and only edition. Publisher's pictorial black and gilt stamped green cloth, with an image of a tiger and an elephant with howdah, beveled boards. 7 1/2 x 5 inches; viii, 119, [1] pp.; in-text illustrations. Very minor wear to extremities, contents clean and bright. Bookplate of Lord Northwick.
In this work, Amery advocated using European forestry methods (primarily German) for the management of Indian forests. The forestry industry, in India, Burma and Ceylon, became a major economic mainstay for the Empire around this time, but the environmental changes impacted the habitat of game animals, leading (together with hunting and human population pressure) to a steady diminution of game species. An uncommonly fine example of a book that is scarce in the trade.
