Manuscript on ruled paper written in a neat hand, Woodhouse's name written on the front endpaper "Alfred Woodhouse/Airlie Estate/Kotargherry/Madras." Reverse calf, titled as above with red morocco label on front cover. 8 3/4 x 6 7/8 inches (22 x 17.5 cm); [2], 29 ff. (the bulk of the volume uncompleted). Spine defective.
Woodhouse was the part proprietor of a large coffee estate near Madras. The manuscript described five hunts between 1875 and 1877, including an unsuccessful ibex hunt. Woodhouse hunted with one William Butcher on two occasions, pursuing mostly bison; a melancholy newspaper clipping inserted notes that soon after their last hunt together Butcher was killed in a shooting mishap.
