Leiden: Brill, 1884. Publisher's green wrappers printed in Javanese. 7 5/8 x 5 5/8 inches (19 x 13 cm); 92 pp.; four double-page chromolithographic plates of hunting scenes lithographed by P.J. Mulder. About fine.
A rare work on big-game hunting set in Javanese type. Leendert Hendrik Rhemrev was born Vermehr; his father was a captain in the Dutch East India Company. He appears to have changed his name when he married a Javanese woman; he spent most of his life on Java, working as a translator. He was briefly a language teacher at the University of Leiden, which is likely when the present work was issued, probably as a text for his students.
