STOKES, I. N. PHELPS The Iconography of Manhattan Island
, 1498-1909. New York: Robert H. Dodd, 1915-28. One of 360 copies on handmade paper. Six volumes, publisher's half-vellum over blue boards with gilt insignia, housed in original cloth dust protectors, lacks slipcases. 11 x 8 inches (28 x 21 cm); illustrated throughout with color and black and white intaglio plates depicting Manhattan throughout its history. Some chipping and small losses to jackets, occasional thumbsoiling, the jackets have protected the spines which are fine and bright, the set is tight and hardly handled.

A fine set of Stokes Phelp's beautifully presented and important reference work on the iconography of Manhattan.
